In 1985, the Air Jordan 1 released, starting a major shift within basketball culture, then years following the initial release, the Air Jordan 1 began to assimilate into skateboarding culture when other skate endemic brands were focused on other sports.
For 2019, the Jordan Brand celebrates the relationship with the SB x AJ1 “Defiant 1”. The collaboration pays homage to two sets of paralleled cities in Jordan Brand and skateboarding history Los Angeles and Chicago, Paris and New York.
The “Defiant 1” is designed to gradually reveal the second colourway with wear as a nod to skate culture.
The “NYC to Paris” colourway highlights two cities with iconic skate styles. NYC’s grittiness is represented through a light bone and sail colorway while Paris’ vibrancy is represented through a hyper pink and crimson colorway.
The Black reveals a Pink color, to match the insoles, while the Grey reveals an Orange tone, similar to the Nigel Jordan 1. Finishing off the design are Nike SB tongue labels and branded insoles.
