Marvel’s superhero films could be without the famous Spiderman character after talks to “share” the character broke down between the Disney-owned studio and Sony.
It is reported that the partnership has sunk because both Disney and Sony failed failure to agree on financial terms for future films.
Disney asked for a bigger piece of Spider-Man movies going forward, and Sony turned down the offer.
This Marvel and Sony split also means that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is likely to disappear entirely from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hollywood Reporter reports.
Marvel president Kevin Feige has pulled out of any further production on future Spider-Man films as the dispute between Sony Pictures and Disney.
And Sony has gone on to share a short statement on social media, expressing that they’re disappointed and ‘hope this might change in the future’.
“Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film.
We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him – including all their newly added Marvel properties – do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own.
Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue. “
This makes it “almost certain” that the character Spider-Man will be absent from crossover appearances in future Marvel films too, according to Hollywood Reporter.
