African artists call out AKA & distances themselves from South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks

Following the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa, Nigerian artists have come out in numbers to speak out and call out the local government.

Burna Boy is the latest Naija artist to distance himself from coming to South Africa.

“I will NOT EVER go to South Africa again for any reason until the SOUTH AFRICAN government wakes the fuck up and really performs A miracle because I don’t know how they can even possibly fix this.” he posted.

Burna Boy was recently announced to perform in South Africa for 30-31 December 2019 at Afropunk Joburg. The uproar also falls on the rapper, AKA for his comments back in June 2019 during the AFCON tournament.

Twitter users and a number of Nigerian artists have labelled his comments distasteful and xenophobic.

“I’m hurt man. This match was bigger than football. The biggest rivalry on the continent. Why do we always have to lose against Naija at EVERYTHING.”

“We should have just lost to Egypt … rather than Nigeria.”

Since then, AKA has been called out by African artists including Burna Boy, Ycee, Davido, Young Skales to name a few.
