Yanga Chief has dropped a new EP ‘Becoming a Pop Star’ also pronounced BAPS (inspired by Michael Jackson’s Bad).
The project consists of 9 tracks including leading single Utatako and 200.
Taking it easy on the features, Yanga invited Makwa, AKA, Boity, Riky Rick and Dee Koala to jump of few collabos.
The album is just a solid reminder of how good Yanga is at doing the magic with raps and putting flavour on Xhosa rhymes – and of course still maintaining the flow of wedding grooves with the Mafikizolo-themed Lovey.
Yanga also showcases his mad pen skills when it comes to Soweto (reminder to Prokid’s anthem), a heart-soothing and tribute jam to the township itself and legendary musicians like Zola, Mandla Spikiri, Slikour, Lebo Mathosa, Mandoza, Mapaputsi, Makhendlas, TK, Hugh Masekela, Lucky Dube to name a few.
The EP wraps up on a high-note with trap grooves; Hard a collaboration with AKA and Utatako the remix with bars from Boity, Riky Rick and Dee Koala.
This release follows his 2017 Ep Neighborhood Genius and his only 2018 single release So Soon, a collaboration with Tellaman.
