The photography culture in South Africa is at its peak now and that comes with more local photographers getting the recognition and exposure they deserve.
And we’re happy to keep driving the conversation with our ‘always refreshed’ yearly list of photographers to follow.
For the past few years, we have seen how photographers play a major role especially when it comes to campaign collaborations, curating content and keeping a vibey and neat social media feed.
Brands and companies are finally making those calls to collaborate with photographers on special campaigns and events, while on the other side we see this popular trend of celebrities having their own photographers and traveling everywhere with them.
Last year alone, Kgomotso Neto secured a collaboration with a Lager brand, shot a Coca-Cola campaign and the latest Nike x Kaizer Chiefs 50th-anniversary campaign.
Cedric Nzaka aka EverydayPeopleStories who is known for stellar Faces shots at culture events – has landed a collaboration with Pantone Sundays, bringing his tasteful style of shooting to this monthly colour-themed fashion party.
Urbankreative along with ZeeTakesNicePictures are digital content producers at Metro FM, which means creating content for station’s digital platforms.
Man of the moment, Mini Photography (Mini Nene) is a well known photographer for personalities like Riky Rick and Black Coffee. And for someone who shoots personalities and celebrities, this means going from place to place and hopping in a plane to travel with them.
Those are just a few mentions that show how the photography industry has expanded to become versatile and fruitful.
But other than that, it all comes down to being unique and defining your style of shooting for masses to appreciate you and sign you that big cheque.
As usual, we have put together a list of South African photographers who are noteworthy when it comes to creativity, style of shooting, and storytelling. Also, making an impact in the entertainment, lifestyle, fashion and art scene.
The list does not repeat names and you can flip back to our 2019 list, 2018 list and 2017 list to indulge.
*Don’t feel let down when you don’t see your fav photographer on this list. We tried to keep the list fresh and make sure we introduce you to new names.
