SABC 3‘s long time running soapie Isidingo is sadly coming to an end.
After 21 years on screen, the SABC announced the soapie’s farewell with the last episode airing on Thursday, 12 March 2020.
So why is the soapie coming to an end?
In a statement by the public broadcaster released last year, the channel said “the decision to decommission Isidingo has been informed by a number of factors, including poor audience ratings during the time slot and a decline in revenue and poor return on investment. The organisation was faced with no option but to review the performance of all programmes on the channel that are not performing and to ensire that the channels conten is competitive and commercially viable.” said Mr. David Makubyane, SABC acting Group Executive: Television.
The public broadcaster says SABC 3 plans to invest in local productions which will allow creatives to come up with new, gripping and commercially viable content.
Through its content division, the SABC will welcome any proposals that will respond to the plans and the direction of the channel.
