The Basketball Africa League (BAL) announced that the league’s season has been postponed.
The inaugural season was scheduled to kick off on 13 March 2020 in Dakar, Senegal.
According to a statement issued by Amadou Gallo Fall (President of BAL), the postponement is due to ‘health concerns related to the coronavirus’.
Here is the issued statement:
“Following the recommendation of the Senegalese government regarding the escalating health concerns related to the coronavirus, the BAL’s inaugural season will be postponed. I am disappointed we are not able to tip off this historic league as scheduled but look forward to the highly-anticipated launch of the BAL at a later date.”
The inaugural BAL regular season was to also take place in Cairo (Egypt), Dakar (Senegal), Lagos (Nigeria), Luanda (Angola), Monastir (Tunisia) and Salé (Morocco).
The BAL consists of 12 club teams from across Africa divided into two conferences, with each conference playing in three cities.
