As the government continues to control the wild-spread on coronavirus (COVID-19), the Department of Cooperative Governance has announced that all places selling and serving alcohol (bars, shebeens, and restaurants) must close at 6:00 pm, the new law applies immediately.

The new regulations states:

All-consumption premises selling liquor, including taverns, restaurants, and clubs, must be closed with immediate effect or must accommodate no more than 50 persons at any time. All on-consumption and off-consumption premises selling liquor must be closed between 6:00 pm until 9:00 am next morning on weekdays and Saturdays, and 1:00 pm on Sundays and public holidays.

This law also applies to all liquor stores.

In addition, no approval of liquor licenses will be granted at this duration of the national state of disaster.

At the time of writing this article, South Africa stands at 116 positive cases of the coronavirus.
