For those who will be trying to port their cellphone numbers during the coronavirus lockdown, unfortunately, you will not be allowed, this is according to a new Government Gazette.

Published on Thursday, 26th March 2020, the Gazette states:

PORTABILITY NUMBER MOBILE AND INCREMENT PRICE ON PROHIBITION

All licensed entities must not effect any price increases and not perform mobile number portability for duration of the COVID-19 national disaster.

This means mobile networks including MTN, Vodacom, Telkom, and Cell C are not allowed to port cellphone numbers during the COVID-19 national lockdown.

Vodacom and MTN have confirmed that there will be no ports allowed during national lock-down.

This follows afterย Cyril Ramaphosa announced nationwide lockdown which started from Thursday, 26 March 2020 and will arguably be lifted on Thursday, 16 April 2020.

In other news linked to COVID-19, South Africa is launching coronavirus testing stations.ย
