For those who will be trying to port their cellphone numbers during the coronavirus lockdown, unfortunately, you will not be allowed, this is according to a new Government Gazette.
Published on Thursday, 26th March 2020, the Gazette states:
PORTABILITY NUMBER MOBILE AND INCREMENT PRICE ON PROHIBITION
All licensed entities must not effect any price increases and not perform mobile number portability for duration of the COVID-19 national disaster.
This means mobile networks including MTN, Vodacom, Telkom, and Cell C are not allowed to port cellphone numbers during the COVID-19 national lockdown.
Vodacom and MTN have confirmed that there will be no ports allowed during national lock-down.
This follows after Cyril Ramaphosa announced nationwide lockdown which started from Thursday, 26 March 2020 and will arguably be lifted on Thursday, 16 April 2020.
