Netflix searches rise to 142% amid coronavirus pandemic

A data put together by Learnbonds shows that between April last year and April 05 this year, Netflix searches have risen by 142%.

Netflix searches significantly saw a spike during the first week of March 2020. During this period, Netflix had a search popularity score of 75. By the second week of last month, the searches grew by 17.3% while towards the end of March, the popularity slightly grew by 1.1% to 89.

 

 

In the first week of April 2020, the popularity score reached 100, a growth of 12.3% from the last week of March and 142% from a similar period last year.

Between April 2019 and February this year, the searches had an average of about 41 in the popularity score.

The spike in searches comes as no surprise because more people are staying home due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

In South Africa for the past 30 days, Google data shows that Western Cape, Gauteng and Eastern Cape are provinces with more interest in Netflix.

By country, Argentina leads with a score of 100, followed by Uruguay with 98 and Ireland with 96.
