Today, Netflix confirmed its first African Original series, ‘Queen Sono’ has been renewed for Season 2.
If you recall, back in February we did hint that Season 2 was coming considering the ending of the first season.
“No need to spoil things for those who haven’t watched, but the ending of Season 1 shows that Queen Sono will continue her mission to take on a rival who killed her dear family member. Although we feel Season 1 is short, we hope Season 2 will arrive with more episodes. Another surprising scene at the end is the appearance of Queen’s father and that leaves fans hanging on more questions.”
In the second season, we will see Queen search for the truth as her newfound need for revenge takes her on a mission across Africa. All while she deals with her family’s past and her complicated love life.
Pearl Thusi, Vuyo Dabula, Sechaba Morojele, Chi Mhende, Loyiso Madinga, Rob Van Vuuren, Kate Liquorish, Khathu Ramabulana and Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa are all expected to return for the highly anticipated season 2.
Diprente will return as the production team behind season 2 and are expected to begin production later this year.
At this stage, it is not clear how many episodes we will have on Season 2.
And still raising the bar, Netflix will soon debut another African original globally, Blood & Water – which stars Gail Mabalane, Sello Maake, Ama Qamata, Natasha Thahane, Khosi Ngema, Dillon Windvogel, Thabang Molaba to name a few.
