Reppin’ the South side, Kevi Kev has finally delivered his much-awaited EP project ‘A Part of Me’, releasing under his stable Roosterink.
The 8-track project is a solid release from the rapper, who continues to share his journey and experiences through thought-provoking raps.
A Part of Me is a story about love, life experiences, motivation, and nothing but groovy beats. The overall project offers an absolute Hip-Hop sound, with a blend of mellow beats, trap and kwaito-influences.
Kevi Kev opens up with the Intro letting his fans know this is a new chapter for him and ‘a lot has happened, a lot has changed’.
In Ask For Me, he invites Zaddy Swag to blend this jam with that laid-back R&B mood, while he pens his heart out touching on the race of life, making it in the music scene and talking about his dad.
Without a doubt, Gagi is definitely a fan-favorite, the song a total motivation and to keep you going through the hustle, Kev letting you know go and get it; ‘I wake up every morning Thinking if I’m gonna make it today, I will shine and do better Than I did yesterday’.
Other jams worth enjoying are Tsekeleke, Stimela, the anthem of the project South Side and a rewind to Kwaito with Spike Lee.
This a worthy release from Kevi Kev proving that he’s got more authentic stories that listeners can easily relate to, but also proving progress and growth in his music journey. At this moment you can tell he has found his sound and easily refining it, and that is accompanied by the well-orchestrated overall production. This release is a huge step from his 2019 debut EP T.I.M (This is Me) which was a way of introducing himself to the industry.
Kevi Kev’s musical influences can be credited to South African iconic artists like PROkid and HHP who took our own language and made it fashionable through Hip-Hop – and that’s what he carries through.
