Beyoncé’s highly anticipated visual album, Black Is King, officially premiered this past weekend on (Disney+ Friday, July 31) and (M-Net Saturday, 01 August).
The 85-minute film is filled with lovely fashion looks from scene to scene while it highlights elements of African tradition. The film serves as a visual companion to the 2019 album The Lion King: The Gift, a tie-in album curated by Beyoncé for the 2019 remake of The Lion King.
Filmed in various locations, the film’s cinematography captures beautiful people and landscapes across continents, starting in New York, then Los Angeles, South Africa, West Africa, London, and Belgium. From all those places came an extraordinary cast of actors and dancers that influenced the film’s rich tableau and vibrant choreography.
Connie Chiume, Nandi Madida, Nyaniso Dzedze, Lindiwe Dim, Warren Masemola, Yemi Alade, Busiswa, Moonchild Sanelly, and the late Mam’ Mary Twala make some of the local favourites featured in the film.
We have rounded up some of our favourite moments from the film as well as the fashion looks – check them out below:
