Apple continues to dominate the tech space, as the company will be launching a whole bunch of new products this year, reports Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Among the new products, Apple is reportedly planning to release something cool named “AirTags”, the tile-like tracking device that can be attached to any object (e.g like keys, wallets, and backpacks) and be tracked with an iPhone through the “Find My” app.
However, something like this already exists as Tile Mate has something similar.
But Apple’s version will be more deeply integrated with Apple devices, with interesting features like automatic alerts when you leave behind a protected item, “lost mode” and setting safe zones/locations.
AirTags will have built-in chips that will allow them to connect to an iPhone, relaying the position of devices that they’re attached to. You will be able to use your iPhone, iPad, and Mac to track the location of AirTags much like you do to find missing Apple devices. The AirTags will show up in a new “Items” tab that will be available in the Find My app right alongside your Apple devices and your friends and family.
In addition, the item tracker can be put in “Lost Mode” – which means the tag will store your contact information, allowing other Apple users to read that information. In such instances, you’ll receive a notification when your item has been found.
So far we can’t confirm if the items tracker will depend only on ultra-wideband or will also offer Bluetooth and WiFi. The tags will be compatible with only the latest iPhones if it depends on ultra-wideband, however, if Apple decides to offer Bluetooth/WiFi then it will be compatible with all iPhones/iPads.
Stay tuned for more info…This is a developing story.
