PUMA is adding the Mirage Mox to its newest product franchise: Mirage, a growing selection of Futro styles, and a mashup of retro sneakers with futuristic inspiration.
Mirage Mox takes design cues from the ’90s running shoes and transforms them for today’s sneakerheads.
To put some twist to the PUMA Mirage Mox we linked up with Khanya “The Voice” Hadebe aka Illuminated Greens, to style the silhouette and to chat about his DJing career, and his take on the Mirage Mox.
With a revamped design that brings new perspective to street style, the Mirage Mox is inspired by the world of electronic music and DJs.
Illuminated Greens is no stranger to the scene. Besides playing at some of the hottest and popular parties in and around Joburg, he is one of the trailblazers pushing the culture forward. As someone who is deep into music, fashion, and pop culture, it only made sense to connect with him to take on the PUMA Mirage Mox, bringing his own style and rhythm.
Introduce yourself...
My name is Khanya Hadebe better known as Illuminated Greens or The Voice, I'm a DJ from Joburg born in Cape Town. I play House Music mainly and a bit of Hip-Hop.
When did your love for music and Deejaying begin?
I grew up in a very musical family, so with me, music has always been a part of my life, and I just took the easy way in terms of Deejaying because instruments are very hard.
Who are some of the artists/DJs that influenced you?
My biggest influences have to be Carl Cox, Martin Garrix DJ Maphorisa, and Oskido.
Is there a formula you use to prepare for your sets?
I really read the crowd before anything, I always pay attention to what the previous DJ played and how the crowd is engaging so that I can prepare myself.
How is fashion important to you as a DJ?
Drip is forever! So fashion is really important, besides the Deejaying, it’s an interest I show.
How would you describe the Puma Mirage Mox with your style?
The sneaker really goes well with shorts or a pair of good jeans. I like the sneaker so much and I’m really impressed.
The Mirage has been in the PUMA family for close to half a century, first introduced as a lightweight track and field shoe and then reissued as a jogging shoe in the 1990s with a die-cut eva midsole.
With a revamped design that brings new perspective to street style, the Mirage Mox is inspired by the world of electronic music and DJs with trippy, bright accents of colour, eye-catching layers of materials, a unique TPU piece in the heel and futuristic elements. The iconic overlay on the forefoot is a direct link back to the Mirage OG and pays homage to the shoe’s history.
