On Monday, 01 February 2021, President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation on South Africa’s ongoing measures regarding the second wave of coronavirus (COVID-19).
Following his last address which touched on the vaccine rollout plan and the adjusted Level-3 lockdown, today Ramaphosa announced that the ban on the sale of alcohol has been lifted and the new curfew applies from 11pm to 4am.
The address follows meetings in recent days of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC), the President’s Coordinating Council (PCC), and Cabinet.
Here’s a quick round-up of Ramaphosa’s address and new regulations:
– First batch of 1 million Covid-19 vaccines arrived today (01 February 2021) and will be distributed to health workers.
– The sale of alcohol by licensed premises for off-site consumption will be permitted from Mondays to Thursdays, from 10am to 6pm. On-site consumption of alcohol will be permitted all licensed outlets from 10am to 10pm.
– Wine farms and micro-breweries may sell alcohol for off-site consumption during their normal operating hours.
– Faith-based gatherings will be permitted, subject to health protocols. Such gatherings may not exceed 50 people for indoor venues and 100 persons for outdoor venues. Where the venue is too small to accommodate these numbers with appropriate social distancing, then no more than 50 percent of the capacity of the venue may be used.
– Beaches, dams, rivers, parks, and swimming pools are open subject to social distancing and health protocols.
– Social gatherings, political events, traditional council meetings, and gatherings at sports grounds will be not be allowed.
– Funerals may not be attended by more than 50 people.
– Non-essential establishments including restaurants and bars must close at 10pm.
