Bridgerton is now the biggest series ever on Netflix.
The series arrived on Netflix on December 25, last year with 8-episodes for the first season. Weeks later the streaming service confirmed Season 2.
A record of 82 million households around the world chose to watch Bridgerton in its first 28 days. And the show has made the top 10 in every country except Japan – hitting number one in 83 countries including the US, UK, Brazil, France, India and South Africa. The success of Bridgerton propelled the books into The New York Times best seller lists for the first time, and 18 years after they were first published.
It takes over from the previous title holder The Witcher, which was watched by 76 million households for Season 1 which debuted in 2019.
The series follows the story of the Bridgerton family: Violet, Lady Bridgerton; her four sons, Anthony, Benedict, Colin and Gregory and her four daughters, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca and Hyacinth. Also featured are the Featheringtons: Portia, Lady Featherington; her husband the Baron; and their three daughters, Philippa, Prudence and Penelope.
The story also puts focus on Daphne Bridgerton who ends up being married to Simon, the Duke of Hastings – and the mysterious author Lady Whistledown who is to be unmasked.
