If you’re looking for something new to watch then check out “Monster” on Netflix.
The movie is based upon Walter Dean Myers’ 1999 novel of the same name and follows the trial of Steve Harmon (Kelvin Harrison, Jr.), a young aspiring film student who gets accused of participating in an armed robbery that left a convenience owner dead.
The case ends up in a trial and the jury is to determine Harmon’s guilt with their own biases coloring their perception.
This is another excellent watch to highlight systemic issues with the legal system and racism, and it stars Jennifer Hudson (who plays Harmon’s mother), Jennifer Ehle, Tim Blake Nelson, Nasir “Nas” Jones, Rakim “A$AP Rocky” Mayers, Paul Ben-Victor, John David Washington and Jeffrey Wright (who plays Harmon’s dad). Wright, Jones, and John Legend also serve as executive producers on the movie.
The movie is currently streaming on Netflix.
