Following the president’s address on Sunday evening, local cinemas businesses, Ster-kinekor and Nu Metro confirmed they will be closed during level 4 lockdown.
Ramaphosa announced that the country will move to lockdown level 4 for 14 days with a new curfew from 9pm to 4am.
The restrictions mean non-essential businesses are forced to close their doors for business.
This was almost a period where the cinema industry was trying to recover after a blowout from 2020 heavy lockdown regulations. Movies such as Black Widow, Space Jam 2, Ice Road, Escape Room 2, Jungle Cruise and Candyman were amongst those set to release in coming weeks and month.
Fast & Furious 9 has only been showing for a week so far.
This means dates for the upcoming movies will have to be changed.
Nu Metro:
Following South Africaʼs move to lockdown Level 4, cinemas are required to close temporarily. All existing shows will be cancelled.
Ster-Kinekor:
Ster-Kinekor Theatres will be temporarily closed in line with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement last night .
