Seputla Sebogodi will join Thuso Mbedu, John Boyega, and Viola Davis in the upcoming historical drama The Woman King.
The drama is inspired by true events that took place in the Kingdom of Dahomey in the 18th and 19th centuries. The story follows Viola Davis as Nanisca, a military unit general, and Thuso Mbedu as Nawi, an ambitious recruit. Davis and Mbedu will fight enemies who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threatened to destroy everything they’ve lived for.
John Boyega will star as Dahomey’s ruler, King Ghezo.

Per industry insider Phil Mphela, the film will be shot in South Africa and Seputla Sebogodi is the latest local star to join the hottest cast, with more local talent expected to join.
Gina Prince-Bythewood serves as the director. She is famed for recently directing the critically acclaimed blockbuster, The Old Guard.
The Woman King is currently in development and the release date will be revealed soon.
