You might be wondering what on earth is Wordle and why is everyone obsessed with it.
In a simple explanation, Wordle is a daily word game you can find online here – and has since gone viral with over 300,000 people playing it daily.
The game is all about guessing a word for the day. Every 24 hours there’s a new word of the day, and it’s up to you to figure it out what it is. You only get one shot to figure out the word of the day and if you mess up, you have to wait until tomorrow to get a brand new puzzle.
The site gives a simple explanation of the rules:
Wordle gives you only six chances to guess a randomly selected five-letter word each day. As shown above, if you have the right letter in the right spot, it shows up green. A correct letter in the wrong spot shows up yellow. A letter that isn’t in the word in any spot shows up gray.
You can enter a total of six words, meaning you can enter five burner words from which you can learn hints about the letters and their placements. Then you get one chance to put those hints to use. Or you can try for performance and guess the word of the day in three, two or even one go.
The game is more like a puzzle to solve and gives people the edge to compete on a daily basis, that’s why the whole buzz on social media.
Once you’ve managed to get the word or not, you’re invited to share your Wordle journey for the day. If you tweet the image, it looks like this:

The game was created by software engineer Josh Wardle, who originally created the game for his partner to kill time during the pandemic.
It has recently been purchased by New York Times for an “undisclosed price in the low seven figures.”
By early January, there were more than 300 000 and now millions of people play it daily.
