Pitori’s very own, Mellow & Sleazy present their new album Midnight In Sunnyside. The 9-track solid release brings together versatile artists including Madumane (DJ Maphorisa), Sizwe Alakine (REASON), M.J, Lemaza, Nkosazana Daughter, Daliwonga, BontleRSA and the late Mpura.
Having produced a slew of hits including the viral “Nkao Tempela” and the megahit “Bopha”, Mellow & Sleazy have remained a force of nature in the Amapiano genre.
Their signature brittle snare, a geotag of Pitori’s bacardi sound—sometimes referred to as nkwari or rekere—is a fail-safe dance-floor invitation.
It carries “Casablanca”, an assemblage of three of amapiano’s trusted lyricists—Madumane, Sizwe Alakine and the late Mpura Mpura—as well as “Bayethe”, which bears another of the duo’s secret weapons, the infamous whistle loop.
“Slatlha Matente” makes sonic plot twists, deftly navigated by guests M.J, BoontleRSA and Azi. The dramatic switches between percussive moments and minimalist instrumentals on Midnight in Sunnyside capture the different energy levels one likely experiences while partying in Sunnyside at the capable hands of Mellow & Sleazy.
