Formula 1 is working towards a deal for South Africa to be part of the race calendar in 2023.
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali flew down to South Africa on Monday straight from Sunday’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix. He is in the country for talks with local stakeholders about including the Kyalami Grand Prix circuit on next year’s F1 race calendar.
An official announcement is likely to happen in the coming weeks.
South Africa has not hosted Formula 1 since 1993 at the Kyalami circuit.
Kyalami has been massively renovated since the last Formula 1 visit, though it would still need more upgrades and infrastructure improvements to receive FIA Grade 1 status.
F1 is planning a record-breaking 24-race schedule for next year, which will include a new street event in Las Vegas.
