PUMA enters the Slipstream with Uncle Vinny and Blxckie

The new PUMA Slipstream.

PUMA, the fastest sports brand in the world, enters the Slipstream with its next-generation Slipstream sneaker as worn by artists Uncle Vinny and Blxckie.

Bringing ‘80s basketball to the modern-day without compromising its performance roots, the Slipstream is a court classic reinvented.

The origins of the silhouette date back to the Slipstream, a high-top basketball shoe born in 1987 as a successor to the SKY LX. Presented as a performance model that was “engineered for the serious player,” according to advertisements at the time, the Slipstream was a pioneer for its innovative material makeups, which featured embellishments like faux snakeskin, leather, and faux fur.

A retro program in 2002 reintroduced Slipstream models like the Slipstream Snake and Slipstream Beast into the Japanese market, to appease an appetite for overstated, “more is more” sneaker designs. Subsequently, the Slipstream was created in special made-in-Japan versions.

Now, 35 years after it was first released, PUMA pens the latest chapter in the saga of the Slipstream. This summer, the storied Slipstream makes its return in a plethora of colorways and makeups. Re-imagined today, 2022’s evolution of the Slipstream combines the basketball DNA with an undeniably clean and modern look. The silhouette’s tooling and upper are given a contemporary feel via a sculpted midsole, updated overlay panels, and a remodeled collar construction.

The accompanying “Welcome Unbored” campaign follows a cast of PUMA family members – Neymar Jr, LaMelo Ball, Danna Paola, Romeo Beckham and Memphis Depay – who are embarking on a galactic journey to reach new horizons with the Slipstream.

PUMA South Africa fam, Blxckie and Uncle Vinny, have hopped on the ride and joined them on this new adventure.

WHERE TO BUY:
The first style in the seasonal collection, PUMA Slipstream (388549 01) retailing for R1 999 is available on PUMA.com, PUMA Stores, Side Step, sportscene, The Cross Trainer, Shesha and selected retailers.
