“The Woman King” movie have been revealed via Vanity Fair. The first-look photos show key cast including Viola Davis, Thuso Mbedu, John Boyega and Lashana Lynch to name a few.
The drama is inspired by true events that took place in the Kingdom of Dahomey in the 18th and 19th centuries. The story follows Viola Davis as Nanisca, a military unit general, and Thuso Mbedu as Nawi, an ambitious recruit. Davis and Mbedu will fight enemies who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threaten to destroy everything they’ve lived for.
Davis is producing the project alongside Cathy Schulman, Julius Tennon, and Maria Bello.
Other cast includes Makgotso M, Masali Baduza, Angélique Kidjo, Siv Ngesi, Thando Dlomo and Tuks Tad Lungu.
The movie will arrive in cinemas on September 16.
