Eskom has just announced that Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented from 4pm until 12midnight this afternoon (Wednesday, 03 August 2022) — until Thursday, 04 August 2022.
In a statement, Eskom says this is due to a shortage of generation capacity.
Per the published statement:
Due to the shortage of generation capacity, Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented at 16:00 – 24:00 this afternoon and tomorrow Thursday, 04 August 2022: Due to a shortage of generation capacity, Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented during the evening peak period of 16:00 – 24:00 this afternoon and at the same time tomorrow.
Eskom will promptly communicate any further significant changes.
The delay in returning a generation unit to service each at Arnot, Koeberg and the Kusile power stations, as well as the unplanned outage of a generation unit each at Camden, Medupi and two units each at Grootvlei, Hendrina and Majuba power stations, have exacerbated the capacity constraints. Some generation units are anticipated to return to service over the next few days.
We currently have 2 931MW on planned maintenance, while another 15 051MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.
In the meantime, Eskom is urging the public to reduce the usage of electricity.
