The much-awaited movie “The Woman King” will finally be arriving at cinemas this month. The Viola Davis-led action-adventure will release in the US market on 16 September, however, here in South Africa, the movie will arrive weeks later.

The movie is scheduled to release at Ster-Kinekor and Nu Metro on 30 September.

The movie-led cast includes Thuso Mbedu, John Boyega and Lashana Lynch to name a few.

The drama is inspired by true events that took place in the Kingdom of Dahomey in the 18th and 19th centuries. The story follows Viola Davis as Nanisca, a military unit general, and Thuso Mbedu as Nawi, an ambitious recruit. Davis and Mbedu will fight enemies who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threaten to destroy everything they’ve lived for.

Davis is producing the project alongside Cathy Schulman, Julius Tennon, and Maria Bello.

Other cast includes Makgotso M, Masali Baduza, Angélique Kidjo, Siv Ngesi, Zozibini Tunzi, Thando Dlomo and Tuks Tad Lungu.
