Apple has officially released its highly anticipated iOS 16 for the iPhone, and you can now update your iOS to this latest version.
iOS 16 adds the ability to “Edit” and “Unsend” iMessages. This update also includes cutting out objects from images, new emojis, and bug fixes for your iPhone.
Which iPhones support iOS 16?
The iOS 16 update is available on iPhone devices, and only from iPhone 8 models going up to the latest iPhone 14. So, unfortunately, if you are on an iPhone 7/6/5, you won’t be able to get this update because they don’t have enough storage, RAM, and/or processing power to run iOS 16.
Without further ado, here are the key features that we have tried:
New lock screen customization
iOS 16 brings a whole new exciting lock screen, and you can customize it as well, with fresh colours and by adding widgets. Also, notice the updated bold font for time and date. The notifications are now located at the bottom of the screen.
To access this customization: on your lock screen, tap and hold the screen until the customize menu appears.
You are now able to see your exact battery percentage.
Previously, Apple removed the ability to see the battery percentage on the iPhone models that have a notch (iPhone X and later models). However, iOS 16 brought back this key feature.
To enable battery percentage in iOS 16, head to Settings > Battery > Battery Percentage and toggle the Battery percentage switch on.
You are able to lock your ‘Hidden’ and ‘Recently Deleted’ albums
That Hidden Album and the Recently Deleted folders can now be locked using your Face ID. You also have the option to NOT lock them.
Head to Settings > Photos > then under Albums, toggle the Use Face ID switch on or off.
Unsend or Edit iMessages
iOS 16 brings this notorious feature to iMessage, which allows you to unsend or edit iMessages.
Undo Send: It works perfectly. However, if the person you are sending the iMessage to hasn’t updated to iOS 16, they will still see the message regardless.
Edit: Yeah, sure thing you can edit the iMessage that you sent.
NB*You only have 15 minutes to unsend or edit an iMessage. Once the 15 minute period has passed, you won’t be able to unsend or edit.
The Unsend or Edit feature does not work for Text Messages.
Image cutout feature aka Visual lookup
This feature separates the photo’s background from the subject, then turns the subject into a separate image. So you can simply cut out people or other objects from your photos with a simple tap and hold.
How to use: Open a photo from your album > Tap the photo > Long hold it for a few seconds, and the Copy or Share options will appear.
Home Screen Search Button
The Home Screen ‘Search Button’ is now located at the bottom, just before your dock bar.
Not feeling it? You can get rid of it. Go to Settings > Home Screen > the under Search menu, you can toggle the ‘Show on Home Screen‘ switch on or off.
