The Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi‘s office has requested consent from President Cyril Ramaphosa to hold a provincial state funeral in honour of the late rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes.
However, the presidency has rejected the request. Lesufi [reporting to media] said that the province wanted to honour the rapper by draping his coffin with the South African flag and also by flying the flag at half-mast.
In addition, Lesufi said even though the request was rejected, they will continue supporting the Forbes family at the memorial and the funeral.
AKA was shot and killed alongside his friend Tebello’ Tibz’ Motsoane on Friday night, 10th February 2023 in Durban.
