41 years later, the model still remains a highly sought-after sneaker and has become a staple in many sneaker collections, often being regarded as a must-have by sneaker enthusiasts.

Here are the interesting facts about the Nike Air Force 1:

The name
The name “Air Force 1” comes from the name of the United States presidential plane. Nike chose to use this name for its new sneaker to emphasize that it could be worn by anyone, regardless of status.

The designer
The Air Force 1 was designed by Bruce Kilgore, who also designed other iconic sneakers such as the Nike Sock Racer and the Air Jordan 2.

Discontinued
Due to poor sales, the Air Force 1 was discontinued in 1984. However, a group of Baltimore retailers persuaded Nike to keep producing the shoe, and it eventually became a best-seller. It returned to the market in 1986.

Still making a buzz
Since its debut in 1982, the Air Force 1 has been released in over 1,700 different colorways. The shoe remains incredibly popular and has maintained sales in excess of 800 million dollars
per year.

Easily customizable
The Nike Air Force 1 is one of the most easily customizable sneakers.

Unisex
The Air Force 1 was one of the first sneakers to be worn by both men and women.

The Triple White effect
The ‘all-white’ colourway is so popular that it even has various nicknames, such as Triple Whites, Coke White, Uptowns, and White on Whites.

The all-white Air Force 1 has become a staple in many sneaker collections and is often considered a must-have for sneaker enthusiasts.

Cultural icon
The Air Force 1 has been worn by some of the biggest names in hip-hop, including Nelly, Jay-Z, and Nas. The shoe became popular in the 1990s, when rappers began to incorporate it into their look. It is still highly regarded among hip-hop artists and fans today.

On court
The Nike Air Force 1 was the first basketball shoe to incorporate Nike’s “Air” technology into the sole. This cushioning system changed the way sneakers were made and became the benchmark for all future Nike sneakers. The Air Force 1 shoes were worn by some of the NBA’s most high-profile players of the era, including the “Original Six”: Michael Cooper, Bobby Jones, Moses Malone, Calvin Natt, Mychal Thompsen and Jammal Wilkes.

Influence
In the 1980s, the Air Force 1 became so popular in New York City that a gang of drug dealers dubbed themselves “The Air Force Ones” and wore the shoe as a symbol of their wealth and success.
