Ahead of her Coachella debut performance in April, Amapiano sensation Uncle Waffles got be honored as Audiomack’s latest #UpNow artist. The platform launched this emerging artist program to give a spotlight to the next generation of global music superstars.

She will also be on the cover of Audiomack’s #UpNow playlist and her music will be highlighted across the platform’s channels with specialized marketing, editorial, social promotion, playlisting and curated videos.
Uncle Waffles also got to chat with the Audiomack about the criticism she receives now and then.
“There are tons of videos of me playing, but people will still say, ‘We’ve never heard her play and she sucks.’ So having to always prove it… just doesn’t make sense,” she says.
“They also only do that to females. They never invalidate males in any sort of way. One thing about females is they’ll forever be criticized, and you get to constantly be scrutinized because people somewhat feel like you’re unworthy.”
On having no creative community in Swaziland where she came up:
“Swaziland doesn’t really have a creative community of any sort, nothing whatsoever,” she explains. “Everything that involves creatives—whether it’s being on a billboard, doing work for big companies, brands, or even gigging—came as the bare minimum. People were paying through favors.”
“In the midst of me going to school in South Africa, I thought this was a great opportunity for me to really follow what I want to do and really push.”
On blowing up international:
“Me blowing up and dancing was never intentional because it was something that I did for myself. It wasn’t something I used to steal the crowd; it’s just something that can happen automatically,” she says. “Now, it’s become a very important part of my DJing because that’s how I express myself and how I set myself apart from a lot of DJs, through entertaining.”
