L’Oréal has signed an agreement with Natura &Co to acquire Aesop, the Australian luxury beauty brand.
The proposed transaction values Aēsop at an enterprise value of $2.525 billion.
Aesop currently operates around 400 points of sale across the Americas, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia, with a nascent footprint in China where the first store opened in 2022.
The brand posted sales of $537 million in 2022.
Aesop is a popular luxury skincare brand that offers a range of plant-based, scientifically-formulated skin, hair, and body care products. Through the years the brand has since gained a reputation for its minimalist packaging, high-quality ingredients, and emphasis on sustainability.
Aesop’s products are known for their distinctive scents, which are often derived from essential oils and botanical extracts, and are designed to be both effective and enjoyable to use. The brand has a global presence, with over 300 stores and counters worldwide.
The brand has been under the ownership of Natura & Co, which also owns The Body Shop and Avon. Natura & Co acquired Aesop in 2012, but the brand has continued to operate independently with its own distinct identity and product offerings.
