Sure, you have seen the recent buzz on social media about the crazy prices for this Prime drink.
Now you’re just asking yourself, Is this another overhyped product, or am I missing something?
Prime drink is a range of sports drinks, drink mixes, and energy drinks that was developed by American media sensation Logan Paul in collaboration with YouTube rapper and boxer KSI.
The product comes in two types—Prime Hydration and Prime Energy—and is available in seven flavors. It has since been a viral craze in the UK and the US since its launch in late 2022. It was sold out within minutes, and resellers were buying up stock to sell at inflated prices. Hence, you see the crazy escalated prices from some of the retailers, ranging between R400 and R700 for a single 500ml bottle. So yes, we can confirm that this is just hype.
So the drink is getting massive attention because of the high demand, and that has since opened the market for resellers who are obviously going to take advantage of the price tag.
In South Africa, Prime drink is trending on social media because of its heavy price tag, but things are about to take a twist.
Checkers has announced it will be stocking Prime from May 1, 2023, and it will be priced at an average retail price of R39.99 for a 500ml bottle. It seems Checkers got exclusive rights directly from Prime Hydration, LLC, to distribute the product here in South Africa. According to the supermarket retailer, one will be able to buy a maximum of 8 x 500ml units per day (2 per flavour).
In 2022 alone, Prime Hydration, LLC, generated $250 million in retail sales worldwide. Paul and KSI used their audience engagement and YouTube’s algorithmic networks to promote their drink and make it a viral craze.
