MOTORISTS TO DIG DEEPER INTO THEIR POCKETS FROM MAY AS THE PRICE OF PETROL WILL INCREASE
The Central Energy Fund says the price of both grades of petrol are expected to significantly increase.
It seems motorists will spend more than R23 for a litre of petrol starting next week.
The CEF says 95 octane is expected to increase by 52 cents per litre and 93 octane by around 56 cents per litre.
THE BURNT BODY FOUND IN THABO BESTER’S CELL HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS THAT OF KATLEGO BARENG
This week, police announced that Katlego Bereng Mpholo’s DNA matched a burnt body found in cell 35, the cell Thabo Bester was in, at the Mangaung Correctional Centre.
This comes after rapist and murderer Thabo Bester faked his own death when a fire started in his cell last year.]
During an interview with ENCA, Katlego’s father said he had filled in a missing persons docket in April 2022 after being unable to contact his son, who resided in Bloemfontein.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe has confirmed that the body has been positively identified and the family has been notified.
GAUTENG GOVERNMENT SAYS THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF CONDOMS
The Gauteng Department of Health says they are facing a shortage of condoms in the province.
The department says this shortage is due to a supply issue, as suppliers have not had stock since the contract began in February last year.
This was revealed by MEC for Health and Wellness Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko during a parliamentary inquiry this week.
Nkomo-Ralehoko says sexually transmitted infections have spiked in the province due to a shortage of condoms.
The department says sexually transmitted infections have increased, including male urethritis syndrome, from 5 486 to 6 035 between February 2022 and February this year,
In a statement, the Gauteng Health Department says the province does have condoms, but the stock is relatively low.
TWO SUSPECTS ALLEGED TO BE INVOLVED IN THE KILLING OF TWO SOWETO BOYS WILL APPEAR IN COURT ON FRIDAY
The police have confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the brutal killing of two Soweto boys last week.
One of the suspects, a 50-year-old woman, is alleged to be a relative of one of the boys who were found mutilated.
The 50-year-old suspect was arrested along with her 39-year-old partner.
The two boys, Nqobizitha Zulu and Tshiamo Rabanye, were first reported missing on Wednesday last week and were found on Thursday morning in Rockville and White City.
This week, residents of Soweto held a night vigil and memorial service for the boys.
JOBURG MAYOR RESIGNS
The City of Johannesburg has become the latest to be without a mayor this time.
This after the resignation of its mayor, Thapelo Amad on the eve of a motion of no confidence set against him and speaker, Colleen Makhubele.
The former Joburg mayor caused controversy after he spoke about a R9.5 billion loan for the City of Joburg from a private company.
Many questioned his fitness to hold office.
The city is set to elect a new mayor next week Tuesday.
FORMER ESKOM CEO ANDRÉ DE RUYTER APPEARS BEFORE SCOPA
André de Ruyter, the former CEO of Eskom, testified before the parliament’s standing committee on public accounts (Scopa) to respond to inquiries about claims of bad management, corruption, and infrastructure sabotage at Eskom.
De Ruyter confirmed that he alerted Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan to the alleged participation of two high-ranking Eskom officers in corruption and sabotage.
However, he refused to name the officials involved.
