Once you’re hooked on Threads, you’re locked in! Meta‘s Twitter competitor app, has quickly gained popularity, amassing 50 million signups within just 24 hours.
However, users are finding that deleting their Threads account is a more complicated process than expected. The unfortunate reality is that removing a Threads account means deleting your Instagram account as well.
This requirement has left many new Threads users dissatisfied, as they may only be exploring the app and wish to discontinue their usage without impacting their Instagram presence. Nonetheless, Meta has acknowledged this issue and stated that they are working on providing a solution, offering hope to Threads users who desire to delete their accounts without sacrificing their Instagram profiles.
Deleting a Threads account is an arduous task primarily because it involves the removal of one’s Instagram account. While it is possible to temporarily deactivate a profile on Threads, permanently deleting it requires a more drastic measure. The Supplemental Privacy Policy section clearly states that “Your Threads Profile is Part of Your Instagram Account. Therefore, it may be deleted at any time by deleting your Instagram account.” This revelation has disappointed many new Threads users, who may have joined the platform out of curiosity or to test its functionalities. The mandatory connection between Threads and Instagram raises eyebrows, considering that Threads is a subsidiary of Instagram.
In response to the concerns raised by users, a spokesperson from Meta has acknowledged the inconvenience of the current account deletion process. They have assured Threads users that the company is actively addressing this issue and working towards a solution.
