82-YEAR-OLD STAND IN TEACHER DISMISSED FOR WRITING RACIST WORDS DURING CLASS
A substitute teacher at Crawford International Pretoria College was fired for using racial slurs on the board while teaching eighth-graders.
This comes after a teacher, 82, was seen on camera writing racial slurs on the school’s white board during a lesson on Monday.
The teacher’s dismissal has the support of the Gauteng Department of Education.
The teacher allegedly told students that they shouldn’t be harmed when the “k-word” is used on them because apartheid didn’t effect them, according to a statement from the department.
The instructor will also be reported to the South African Council for Educators (SACE) for the necessary investigation and deregistration so that she is not permitted to teach children any longer, the department claims, while the students are receiving therapy as a result of this occurrence.
EIGHT CANDIDATES SHORTLISTED FOR SA’S PUBLIC PROTECTOR
The 38 applicants have been reduced to eight for the position of Public Protector in South Africa.
Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka, the interim public protector, is on the list of contenders.
On August 23 and 24, interviews will be held after the candidates have been reduced in number.
The 7-year non-renewable term of office for suspended Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane expires on October 15th, thus the search is underway for the new Public Protector.
COP KILLER SENTENCED TO OVER 200 YEARS IN JAIL FOR THE 2018 NGCOBO MASSACRE
A man who participated in the 2018 attack on the Ngcobo Police Station was given a 241-year prison term.
Five police officers and an off-duty soldier were killed in the incident, which made national news when the perpetrators were located at the Mancoba Angels Church, where a gunfight took place.
A raid at the church yielded many firearms and bulletproof vests, which the suspects stole and took to the police station.
Siphesihle Tatsi, age 23, received a 241-year prison term on Tuesday as a result of his conviction on 21 crimes.
The case against his co-accused is still pending in court, according to the police, and will be resolved on September 15, 2023.
TSHWANE MUNICIPAL WORKERS REFUSE TO RETURN TO WORK UNTIL THEIR DEMANDS ARE MET
Municipal employees in Tshwane have promised to keep protesting until their demands are satisfied.
The City of Tshwane announced that there will not be a salary raise for employees this fiscal year, which prompted this protest.
The city is being urged by the employees to offer them a rise of between 3.5% and 5.4%.
Four of the demonstrators were detained and charged with inciting public disorder.
THE CITY OF JOBURG BEGINS PROCESS OF DECLARING A LOCAL STATE OF DISASTER IN THE CBD
The city has revealed that they are compiling a report to declare the Lilian Ngoyi Street (formerly Bree Street) gas explosion a local state of disaster.
This came after an explosion last week that severely damaged majority of Bree Street in the CBD.
NEIGHBOURS TO THE KHUMALO’S TO THE STAND AT THE SENZO MEYIWA MURDER TRIAL THIS WEEK
Two of the Khumalo family’s neighbours testified this week at the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.
This comes after Zandile Khumalo spent the entire previous week testifying on the stand.
Khaya Ngcatshe, one of the neighbours, testified in court that he found Meyiwa unattended on the floor of the Khumalo Kitchen.
While the other neighbour, Nthabiseng Mokete, testified in court that she was there in the room when Meyiwa was pronounced dead.
Additionally, Mokete described to the court how she heard three gunshots coming from the Khumalo home and witnessed three males running away from the area around the shooting of the football player.
JUB JUB OUT WITH BAIL FOLLOWING RAPE, ATTEMPTED MURDER & ASSAULT CHARGES
Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye turned himself to the police on Thursday. He’s facing serious charges of attempted murder, rape, and assault following the issuance of a warrant of arrest.
After appearing in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, has was released on R10,000 bail.
THE CASE AGAINST EIGHT VIP UNIT MEMBERS ADJOURNED UNTIL NEXT WEEK TUESDAY
The eight suspended members of Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s security detail will find out their fate on Tuesday of the following week.
This came after their bail application was postponed by the Randburg Magistrates Court until August 1st.
The males are accused of many offences, including assault, malicious property damage, and brandishing a handgun.
This bunch was caught on camera earlier this month assaulting three Volkswagen Polo drivers and passengers off the side of the N1 near Fourways.
