
Morocco was hit by a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8. on the evening of September 8, killing at least 632 people.
The natural disaster occurred in the country’s High Atlas mountain range, shaking the region at a relatively shallow depth of 18.5 kilometers (11.4 miles). The epicenter of the earthquake was situated about 72 kilometers (44.7 miles) southwest of Marrakech, a city known for its rich history and popularity as a tourist destination.
Tragically, the earthquake has killed at least 632 individuals, with 329 people have sustained injuries, with 51 individuals classified as being in critical condition.
These distressing statistics were reported by Morocco’s Interior Ministry and conveyed by state-run TV Al Aoula.
The immediate effects of the earthquake were most strongly felt near the epicenter, where the ground shook intensely. In other parts of Morocco, residents likely experienced lighter to moderate tremors.
