Regarded by many as the NBA’s greatest player of all time, Michael Jordan is now officially among the richest people in America, with a fresh net worth of $3 billion, securing his place among the Forbes 400 wealthiest people, according to Forbes magazine.
Remarkably, MJ has become the first pro athlete to ever make the list.
According to Forbes, MJ ranks No. 379 among the top 400 wealthiest individuals. So, how much money does one need to have to make the list? TMZ says your net earnings need to be around $9 billion to make it further to the Top 100.
Since his NBA debut in ’84, Michael Jordan’s been cashing in. He made $94 million during his 15-year NBA career, even ranking as the top earner in ’97 and ’98. Off the court, he scored big with partnerships, amassing a jaw-dropping $2.4 billion (before taxes) through deals with major brands like McDonald’s, Gatorade, Hanes, and, of course, Nike. His latest Nike royalty check? A massive $260 million.
In August, Jordan scored big by selling his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets to a group led by Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin for approximately $3 billion, nearly 17 times its value when he took over in 2010, marking a historic sale in NBA history.
