Uber, the ride-hailing giant is unveiling a series of new features and services, including the country’s first electric mobility product.
One of the highlights is the launch of the Uber Package, formerly known as Uber Connect. This service allows users to conveniently book same-day pickup and delivery of packages within a specific geographic area.
Starting in Cape Town in December 2023, the Uber Package will shift to fully electric vehicle models for delivery services. This eco-friendly initiative will be extended to Johannesburg in February 2024, marking a substantial step toward Uber’s aim of an all-electric Package fleet by 2023.
Simultaneously, Uber introduces Uber Store Pick-Ups, providing users the option to book a delivery person for the collection of prepaid items from any store. The company is also expanding its services geographically, with Uber Van now available in Cape Town, Uber Black luxury rideshare launching in Durban, and the inclusion of Reserve Airport Pickup for UberX, Uber Comfort, and Uber XL rides.
