The global stage is set for African music luminaries as the Grammy Awards 2024 nominations feature an array of talented artists from the continent. Davido, Tyla, Musa Keys, Burna Boy, Asake, Olamide, and Ayra Starr have all secured nominations.
The awards ceremony will take place on 04 February 2024, in Los Angeles.
Burna Boy’s ‘City Boy,’ Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush,’ Asake’s ‘Amapiano’ featuring Olamide, and South African sensation Tyla’s ‘Water’ have also earned nominations in the competitive category of Best African Music Performance. This also includes Davido received recognition for his chart-topping single ‘Unavailable,’ a collaboration with Musa Keys.
Tyla, known for her distinctive sound and hit single ‘Water,’ celebrated her first Grammy nomination, adding a significant milestone to her burgeoning career. The diverse range of nominees showcases the rich musical tapestry emanating from the African continent.
Burna Boy also secured a nomination for Best Melodic Rap Performance with ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ featuring 21 Savage.
Moreover, Burna Boy and Davido find themselves in friendly competition in two other categories: Best Global Music Performance and Best Global Music Album.
In another exciting development, Nigerian Pop star Fireboy DML received his debut Grammy nomination for his contributions to Jon Baptiste’s ‘World Music Radio,’ which is in contention for Album of the Year.
