This week, you can catch up on new South Africa TV series, “Classified” – a gripping local coming-of-age drama.
Helmed by Kagiso Lediga, the creator behind the acclaimed “Queen Sono“, this eight-episode series promises a thrilling ride into the world of teenage trials and espionage intrigue.
The story follows the journey of Ella Gardner, a 15-year-old from Oakland, California. Her life takes a sudden turn when a violent protest entangles her in a web of uncertainty, leaving her facing arrest and potential jail time. To escape this impending doom, Ella is forced to leave behind the familiar landscapes of California and embark on an unexpected journey in South Africa.
Fate guides her to Johannesburg, where she reunites with her estranged South African father. But what was meant to be a pursuit of education takes a sharp turn as Ella’s world transforms from that of a typical teenager to a spy entwined in dangerous missions.
Imani Pullum leads the cast playing Ella, navigating the tumultuous terrain of self-discovery and peril. The ensemble, featuring talents like Christine Horn, Sule Rimi, Abena Ayivor, Victor Makgati, Nicola Nothnagel, Paballo Koza, and Mila Rayne, adds depth to the series’ dynamic storytelling.
“Classified” is a collaborative effort between South African independent production company Diprente and the esteemed US animation giant Skybound Entertainment.
