South African fighter Dricus du Plessis has etched his name in history by clinching the UFC middleweight world championship.
This momentous victory came after a hard-fought main event against Sean Strickland at UFC 297, hosted at the Scotiabank Arena in Ontario, Canada, on Sunday morning.
The victory is particularly noteworthy as Strickland had previously defeated Israel Adesanya via unanimous decision in September of the previous year, securing the middleweight title.
Du Plessis, who has maintained an unbeaten record in the UFC since his series debut in October 2020, emerged triumphant in the UFC 297 main event, claiming the middleweight title and earning the status of the new champion.
