Recent media reports have indicated that First National Bank is ending the ‘tap-to-pay’ services on Android devices. Well, that is not true!
The banking giant confirmed to TechCentral on Tuesday (06 Feb) that it is instead ending the “tap to pay” functionality in the banking app.
The standalone FNB ‘tap-to-pay’ feature will come to an end in April.
So those banking with FNB will still be able to add and tap their cards through popular services like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay—just not using FNB’s app.
FNB head of card digitisation Jason Viljoen told TechCentral in an e-mailed response to questions: “Only our homegrown FNB Tap to Pay feature in the banking app will be ‘sunsetted’ in favour of our numerous other contactless payment alternatives”.
