Fresh out of the oven is Amazon’s latest series, “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” which debuted with a bang to positive reviews and impressive viewership numbers in its first weeks.
The eight-episode series, starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, is a reimagining of the 2005 film and is co-created and executive produced by Donald Glover (Swarm, Atlanta) and Francesca Sloane (Atlanta, Fargo).
In the series, Glover plays John Smith and Maya Erskine (PEN15) as Jane Smith, they find themselves working for a spy agency that sets them on dangerous missions. To succeed, they must adopt new identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith, navigating missions while dealing with the challenges of an unconventional relationship. Complications arise when genuine feelings develop between them, adding another layer of complexity to their already intricate lives.
“Mr. & Mrs. Smith” has the feel of a slow-burn thriller while also having some comedic moments. The series showcases outstanding cinematography and a well-crafted script, seamlessly blending drama and humor.
The cast also includes Alexander Skarsgård, Sarah Paulson, Ron Perlman, Sharon Horgan, Eiza González, Billy Campbell, and more.
