Apple has officially warned iPhone users against the usual practice of using uncooked rice to dry wet iPhones.
For years, the practice of placing a wet iPhone in a bowl or bag of rice has been a popular method believed to absorb excess water and salvage the device. Despite being a popular and widely circulated DIY method, Apple now advises users to avoid this technique.
According to the tech giant, putting an iPhone in a bag of rice could potentially introduce small rice particles that may cause damage to the device.
The support document recommends an alternative approach, stating, “Don’t put your iPhone in a bag of rice. Doing so could allow small particles of rice to damage your iPhone.” Instead, Apple suggests a different procedure: “Tap your iPhone gently against your hand with the connector facing down to remove excess liquid. Leave your iPhone in a dry area with some airflow. After at least 30 minutes, try charging with a Lightning or USB-C cable or connecting an accessory.”
