Tyler Perry‘s ‘Mea Culpa‘ takes the spotlight as our movie of the week. By now, you have probably come across all the mixed reviews about this movie.
This steamy movie stars Kelly Rowland alongside a talented ensemble including Trevante Rhodes, Sean Sagar, Nick Sagar, and RonReaco Lee.
The plot revolves around Mea Harper, a sharp and savvy defense attorney, played by Kelly Rowland, who finds herself entangled in a dangerous love connection with Zyair, a man accused of murdering his girlfriend, portrayed by Trevante Rhodes.
Mea typically maintains a strictly professional relationship with her clients. However, the lines blur when she takes on Zyair’s case. Trevante brings to life the character of Zyair, an artist on trial for the murder of his girlfriend. Despite the professional conflict of interest, Mea finds herself drawn to Zyair and begins a risky romantic involvement.
The plot takes unexpected turns, unravelling hidden truths and the complexities of desire. Yes, this is a movie you can watch from start to finish, but it falls short of delivering; it’s not a wow to watch. Sadly you have two hours long to watch how it struggles to maintain momentum, bogged down by predictable plot holes and a meandering storyline.
We all know Tyler Perry’s movies have a similar flow when it comes to the script, and the same goes with this one. Just know you’re in for a bunch of embarrassing plot holes, and there is just so much going on.
While it might not be a cinematic masterpiece, Mea Culpa still offers a decent option for those seeking a mix of drama, romance, comedy, and suspense.
You can stream the movie on Netflix. Here’s a trailer to watch:
