Disney has released the first trailer for “Mufasa: The Lion King,” the prequel to the 2019 remake, along with the main cast.
“Mufasa: The Lion King” will hit cinemas on 20 December 2024, unveiling the backstory of Mufasa, an orphaned cub who forms an unlikely alliance with Taka, the royal lion heir. Together, they embark on a perilous journey, forging a brotherly bond while facing formidable foes. This captivating tale follows their quest to fulfill their destiny amidst adversity and danger.
Oscar-winning filmmaker Barry Jenkins directs the film. Aaron Pierre voices Mufasa, while Kelvin Harrison Jr. lends his voice to Taka, the lion who will later be known as Scar.
The other cast includes Donald Glover and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Simba and Nala, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, and John Kani as Rafiki.
South African talent added to the film’s cast includes Kagiso Lediga as Young Rafiki, joined by Thuso Mbedu.
Thandiwe Newton as Eshe, Blue Ivy Carter (daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z), Nigerian actress Folake Olowofoyeku, and British Ugandan actress Sheila Atim are also part of the cast.
The trailer begins with Rafiki, played by John Kani, introducing the story of “a young lion lacking nobility.” Aaron Pierre voices young Mufasa, while Kelvin Harrison Jr. portrays Taka, a prince who forms a close bond with Mufasa, hinting at his eventual transformation into Scar.
