The luxury watch brand Rolex is closing its Sandton, Johannesburg, affiliate office after 76 years.
Per the Sandton Times report, the decision to close its South African affiliate comes amidst changing local markets and economic conditions that no longer justify maintaining an official office in the country, according to a brand spokesperson.
However, Rolex will stay active in the region through its official retailer network, ensuring customers can still buy and service Rolex watches.
The Sandton office is set to close in June 2024.
“Unfortunately, local markets and conjuncture have changed and no longer warrant the presence of an official Rolex affiliate. The brand will therefore close its Sandton office in June 2024 but will remain active in the region through its Official Retailer network,” a Rolex Spokesperson told Sandton Times.
Rolex Watch Company (South Africa) (PTY) Ltd. opened its doors in Johannesburg in 1948 and moved to Sandton in 1997.
Rolex watches will remain available at several locations, including The Vault in Melrose Arch, Shemer Jewellers in Bedford Centre, and Charles Greig in Hyde Park.
