BritBox, the popular streaming service owned by ITV and BBC Studios, has announced that it will be shutting down its operations in South Africa.
Confirming the news to MyBroadband, BritBox stated that the service will no longer be available in the country from August 2024.
Launched in South Africa in 2021, BritBox brought with it a wide catalogue of TV shows and movies, catering to fans of British entertainment. However, the decision to exit the South African market comes as the company plans to refocus its efforts on other markets around the globe, where the service has a stronger presence.
In a statement, BritBox emphasized its commitment to strengthening its presence in key regions where it has already established a solid subscriber base. This strategic shift aims to optimize resources and enhance the service for audiences in these core markets.
Subscribers in South Africa have already been sent notices on this.
