X, formerly Twitter, announced this week that it will be “making Likes private for everyone to better protect your privacy.”
So, what does this mean? It means that the posts you’ve liked on Twitter (X) will only be visible to you.
Before this update, users could see everyone’s ‘Likes’.
X’s director of engineering, Haofei Wang, confirmed the news earlier on Twitter (X) saying:
“Yeah, we are making likes private.
Public likes are incentivizing the wrong behavior. For example, many people feel discouraged from liking content that might be “edgy” in fear of retaliation from trolls, or to protect their public image.”
This update went live globally on Wednesday, 12 June 2024.
